Have a Hissy Fit this Valentine’s Day
“I’m glad Valentine’s Day is on Saturday this year,” an out-of-town friend said, “I don’t have to watch everyone else in my office get flowers.”
Every few years in New Orleans we don’t concern ourselves with making Valentine’s plans. We have Mardi Gras. <!–more–>This weekend kicks off the unofficial threshold of intense Carnival Time (it technically starts on Twelfth Night, January 6th) – there are 25 parades rolling this weekend. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be posting some Mardi Gras stories and recipes from the heart of the action on our site.
While there are many facets of Mardi Gras celebrations for locals and tourists alike, one underlying fact is that caution is thrown to the wind (trust me, I’m a sober witness to many drunken Mardi Gras nights). By extension, let’s just say that if a Valentine is what you’re missing this February 14th in New Orleans, you won’t have a problem finding one in the wee hours of the morning …
I’ve wanted to name a cocktail The Hissy Fit for a while and for those of you who’ve had one of those Valentine’s Days where Cupid’s arrow misfired (or was doused in bitters)… it just seemed right. It’s very easy to drink and not too sweet because the ginger beer balances out the orange juice and passion fruit syrup. So, drink better, not more… And don’t do anything “cupid.”

I always think drinks with a prepared soda in them are cheating, but in this case I will make an exception! Hell I will try anything once, twice if its really bad for ya.

Ran into a guy last night at a party who was making himself a Moscow Mule. Vodka and Ginger Beer. I was able to tell him about the Hissy Fit and broaden his Ginger Beer horizons. He admitted that drinking a Hissy Fit was probably not going to help him score with the ladies — I told him being a mule wouldn’t help either…
