Punch it Up for Game Day!

Posted by Ti Adelaide Martin on February 1st, 2009

We are Saints fans.  Our team in the Superbowl is like a far away land seen in a dream sequence.  BUT, we believe!  And no fans are more faithful.

We have been season ticket holders since day one.  The first time the Saints ever received the ball a little guy nicknamed “Flea” with the numbers 00, ran all the way back for a touchdown.  It’s been pretty much downhill ever since.   There have been highlights though that we hang on to.

Everyone in N.O. says they were in the stands the day Tom Dempsey kicked the 64 yard field goal.  I admit it  — I was in the parking lot, having been dragged out in disgust by my Dad and brother.  The roar of that crowd I can still remember — old Tulane stadium shook to its bones. Oh well.

There is a Saints song called “Who Dat” as in, “Who is that sayin’ they gonna beat them Saints?”  “Who Dat” has become an anthem — hence our Who Dat Punch. Don’t get too hung up on the recipe.  It’s a kitchen sink rum and fruit punch.  Like good Louisiana cooks just make do with whatever is on hand and make it strong.  Then be sure to do a little second line dance — a little strut full of swagger as you serve your punch.

Oh, in that far away Superblowl land.….….….…

And a word from Lu

When you live in New Orleans you can always find a reason to celebrate.  Superbowl is just as good a reason as any other.  Besides, mardi GRAS is just around the corner and we need a rehearsal so we can be ready.  A punch is a great party cocktail because you can prepare it ahead of time and still have time to visit with your guests.  So drink a glass of punch and toast the Whodat nation.  Maybe they’ll make it next year!
