Here in New Orleans Halloween gives boys and girls the chance to dress like girls and boys… And witches, devils, naughty school girls and the like. Let’s not forget the occasional political character. In costume of course. What other city offers tours of cemeteries?

Widow’s Kiss
1 1/2 ozs Calvados 3/4 oz Green Chartreuse 3/4 oz Benedictine 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Vieux Carre Cocktail
1 ounce rye whiskey 1 ounce cognac 1 ounce sweet vermouth 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters 2 dashes Angostura bitters 1/2 teaspoon Benedictine Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass and serve immediately.

Singapore Sling
1 ½ oz Tanqueray gin ½ oz cherry brandy ¼ oz Cointreau ¼ oz Benedictine 2 oz pineapple juice 1 dash of Angostura bitters 2 dashes grenadine ½ oz fresh lime juice Splash of club soda Orange slice, for garnish Lime slice, for garnish Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Perfect New Orleans Manhattan
2 ounce Woodford Reserve bourbon whiskey ½ ounce dry vermouth ½ ounce sweet vermouth 2 dashes Angostura bitters 2 dashes Fee Bros orange bitters Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Stir until well chilled (approximately 20 turns). Pour into rocks glass. Garnish with a cherry, brandied if available.

Old Fashioned (NOLA Style)
In a rocks glass muddle… ½ slice orange 1 sugar cube 1 Maraschino cherry 2 drops Angostura bitters 1 ½ oz Jim Beam In a rocks glass muddle orange, sugar, cherry and bitters. Add Jim Beam and rocks, top with soda. No garnish.

2 slices orange 1 slice lemon 2 ounces Woodford Reserve whiskey ½ ounce orange curacao 3 dashes Angostura bitters ½ oz simple syrup Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker and muddle. Be careful not to overmuddle. Strain over ice in a rocks glass and garnish with 1 slice each of lemon and orange.

Honolulu Cocktail
2 ounces Plymouth gin 1 ounce orange juice 1 ounce pineapple juice ¾ ounce lemon juice ½ ounce simple syrup 1 dash Angostura bitters Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a twist of lemon and silk flower (optional).
